Kehillah Kadosha Award Recipients
(Holy Community)
Rosalie Silver and Mark Lazarovic
Rosalie moved to Port Washington in 1980. In 1986 she
joined Temple Beth Israel when her children David and
Jason attended the Nursery School. Both had their Bar
Mitzvahs at TBI. Mark joined TBI in 1995 when his
children, Katie and Jes- se, attended TBI Hebrew School
before their B’nai Mitzvahs.
Combined Rosalie and Mark have six children; Jason,
David, Laura, David, Kate and Jesse and 14
grandchildren. Rosalie and Mark love having them for
Shabbat dinner. Well, maybe not all at the same time.
They have a passion for sailing and, until recently,
owned
a sailboat named the TomCat. Lucky raffle winners at
TBI functions had the opportunity to sail with them.
Rosalie owns Tara World Travel and for many years has
sent people on their way to lots of vacations. She still
has several agents working for her. Mark works in
construction and has completed numerous building
projects around Port. Over the years, Rosalie and Mark
have been involved with TBI. Rosalie was on the Ritual
Committee and involved Sisterhood. She was President
of TBI for two years. She still coordinates the Haftarah
readings and until recently coor- dinated the High
Holiday honors. Now Helena Eilenberg has taken over
that responsibility. Mark was very active in the New
Building Construction Committee including, the building
of the present sanctuary and the remodeling of the old
sanctuary on the second floor. Rosalie and Mark are
grateful for the friendships they’ve made over the years
as they celebrate 40 years with TBI. They are
appreciative of being recognized with the Kehillah
Kedoshah, the Holy Community Award.
Shem Tov Award Recipient
(Good Name) Heléna
Eilenberg
Heléna Eilenberg moved to Port Washington in 1986
with her husband Steven and their two-year-old son
Michael. A year later, they joined Temple Beth Israel—
and have been part of the TBI family ever since.
Back in those early days, Heléna could often be found
walking the two miles to shul on Shabbat mornings,
Michael in the stroller. (She admits that sometimes
they only made it in time for Aleinu—but they made
it!) Their daughter Samantha was born four years
later, and over the years, TBI has been a constant
source of connection and meaning for their family.
Heléna has always loved the warmth of the Shabbat
community, and she and Steven feel truly lucky to be
part of such a welcoming and vibrant synagogue.
Although her career in Jewish education—at Temple
Israel of Great Neck, Solomon Schechter High School of
Long Island, and most recently at Merrick Jewish
Centre— kept her from being very involved at TBI for
many years, that changed after the passing of her
mother. When TBI minyanaires showed up at her home
each morning during shiva to help make a minyan, she
was deeply moved by the power and kindness of this
community.
Heléna recently retired as Education Director at
Merrick Jewish Centre and was ready to give more
back to TBI. She has now taken on the responsibility of
coordinating High Holiday honors and is loving the
chance to get more involved. She is so proud to be part
of a synagogue that continues to grow, evolve, and
bring people together in meaningful ways.
